I got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight

On the first day of school, one of my favorite Billy Madison clips brings a smile to my face no matter how hectic and stressful the day seems.  I asked for some first day of school outfit opinions a couple of days ago, and here's the outfit I decided to wear yesterday for the official first day of school:
I went with the Paisley pencil skirt!  I agree with those of you that commented that a pencil skirt is the most professional option, and I couldn't wait to bust this beauty out of the closet.  I went with a ruffled tank blouse for a bit of personality.

Cardi: Merona for Target
Tank: Mossimo for Target
Skirt: J.Crew Paisley Pencil Skirt
Shoes: Vintage Joseph Larose

I found these shoes at a vintage store in high school, and they just happen to be that awesome coral/red/orange/flame color that is so huge this fall.  They also match the Paisley pencil perfectly.

As far as how the school year is going, day one left me feeling extremely worn out.  We felt the sting of budget cuts big time at the end of last year, so this year, I have two sections each of three different classes, cafeteria duty, and no planning period (on top of advising the school newspaper and being in charge of our school's TV studio).  I was on my feet ALL DAY today (thank goodness Joseph Larose knew how to make a good shoe), and I had no time to collect my thoughts, run copies, breathe, etc.  I have a feeling this year is going to take a lot out of me.  I think I'll be heavily relying on weekends for blogging, wedding planning, and recharging my batteries.

I also found that I subconsciously drank quite a bit less water (no time to go to the bathroom, except for lunch!), and I was parched by the end of the day.  I'm a big advocate of drinking lots and lots of water (I normally drink at least 4 or 5 bottles a day), so I'm hoping that drinking less won't adversely affect my health/immune system/skin/overall wellbeing.

I got my liquid silk skirt in bright dahlia in the mail, so I'll blog a few pictures of it by the end of this week.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

  1. Shew, girl! Your schedule sounds heinous! I can't believe they took away your planning period...that is crazy! On the plus side, all that running around is good exercise, no? That's what I tell myself every time I come home exhausted from being on my feet all day!

And of course, you look amazing. That skirt was the perfect choice. Love those shoes, too! I need to get better at thrifting! Can't wait to see the liquid silk skirt. That's definitely one I have my eye on...

  2. Congrats on surviving the first day. That schedule sounds tough. It will definitely make weekends worth it.

You look amazing, the shoes are a perfect score. Oh, and you really must continue to drink water- make kids wait in the hall and start a minute or two late if you have to, but you can't teach dehydrated b/c you don't have time to pee- that's outrageous.

  3. You look fabulous. I am very sorry to hear about budget cuts, I am outraged. I cry every time I see my paycheck , almost 45% are gone and where, do I ask, where the money are going? One would think the schools would be the priority , right? As a parent I am very grateful to every teacher out there who despite the time limits, budget limitations and other strains makes it worthwhile for kids. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  5. @AppGal - Thank you! I am going to have to stop myself from wearing that skirt like twice a week. It goes with SO MANY THINGS! Love it. And I loved it on you, too! The liquid silk skirt is so gorgeous. I can't wait to have more than five minutes to write a post on it. You can dress it wayyy up, you can dress it down. I'll try to get the post up tomorrow or Saturday. As far as my plan period goes, we still have one in our contract, but it's a "common plan time" that we get where essentially we're just forced to stay an extra half an hour after the kiddos leave. By then, I'm ready to put my head on my desk and konk out haha.

@Kathryn - I knowww...I'm just gonna drink and go between classes. I was apprehensive about the beginning of the year and being able to greet all my kids on their way in, but that's over and done with, so I have a teensytiny bit more freedom.

@Slastena - You have no idea how much it means to hear a parent (or anyone who isn't in the education field, really) express their thanks. It really, truly makes my day. And at the end of the day, kind words like yours make everything worth it.

@LR - Thanks! They're definitely going to be a go-to pair for the year.

  6. I couldn't cope with being on my feet all day unless I was wearing Uggs, you look so glamourous.
My blue Tippi sweater arrived, I love the colour but you look so much better in it than I do! Of course now I need something to match it to...
